Princess Marie in Ethiopia - Day 3

On her third day in Ethiopia, Princess Marie visited one of the National Church Relief projects in the village of Jibri, where the local population is struggling with a recurrent drought.  
The Princess visited among other things the village school, who, with the support of the DanChurchAid has built a water reservoir.

Today was the last day of the Crown Princess Couple's official visit to Germany. This time they stopped by Dusseldorf first where they visited the Ericsson firm

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel in Germany - Day 1.

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel are currently in Germany for a 2 day visit and  they will be visiting Hamburg, Düsseldorf and Essen. Today the couple started their visit in Hamburg



In the afternoon, they attended a dinner at the castle of Eller in Dusseldorf

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel attend a memorial service.

The Crown Princess Couple attended a memorial ceremony for the victims of the Holocaust at the Raoul Wallenberg Square in Stockholm.


January 27 is the International Remembrance Day for victims of the Holocaust - the same date as the Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated in 1945. Since 1999 there has been a day of remembrance in Sweden as attention around the country . UN declared 2005 this day as International Day of Remembrance



At the ceremony at the Raoul Wallenberg Square Eskil Franck, Director of the Living History Forum, began with a welcome to all the attendants. Then Democracy minister Birgitta Ohlsson spoke and Romani Ros , director of the Documentation and Cultural Centre of German Sinti and Roma, Germany.
Chorus Amé co ROM performed Gelem gelem , Roma national anthem. Is being observed , inter alia, the Living History Forum . The theme for their work on Holocaust Remembrance Day 2014, the Roma during the Holocaust. 2014 is 70 years since the so-called Zigenarnatten in Auschwitz.

Swedish Royal Roundup

On Wednesday, January 22 The King received Samir at the Royal Palace. Through the Foundation, My Big Day (Min Stora Dag) which Princess Madeleine is patron, Samir got help to achieve his greatest wish - to meet the King. 


Samir is 14 years old and lives outside Skövde. He is in eighth grade and likes math and English. The family came to Sweden two years ago, but has been on the road for a long time. They left Afghanistan and traveled to Iran, where they resided for several years, then came to Turkey and then to Greece before coming to Sweden. 
Because of a severe accident, Samir had to undergo several operations with complex after work. He's better now, but will have to live with complications for a long time to come.


On Wednesday, 22 January, the King gave an audience for Director General Helena Lindberg , chief operating officer Christian Di Schiena and head Anneli Bergholm south from Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB ) , at the Royal Palace.
The King learned about the authority external link, opens in new window work . MSB develops and strengthens the community's ability to deal with accidents and emergencies - locally, regionally and nationally. The Agency operates internationally and has hundreds of employees in some 30 countries. MSB is recruiting staff from many different professions .


On that same day, Crown Princess Victoria attended a concert with students from Frost and the Royal College of Music, who were invited to meetings between different musical genres. The concert took place in the Royal Chapel and included in the Festival Young Music at the Palace. 


Finally, from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 January, The King is in a scouting trip in the Philippines together with the World Scout Foundation 
The King's journey in the Philippines involved a visit on Saturday at a scout camp in Mount Makiling, where some 7,000 scouts attended. 


During the afternoon in Manila the King met scouts whose lives have been changed through the Ticket to Life Project. A project that the scouts run for several years and whose goal is to create a better life for the street children. 
On Sunday, the King visited the city of Tacloban who were hit hard by Typhoon Haiyan on November 8 last year. The king took note of the social initiatives that the Scouts are doing and have done in connection with the rescue efforts and the rebuilding of the city.

Program of Princess Marie's visit to Ethiopia.


HRH Princess Marie as patron of DanChurchAid will visit Ethiopia from 27 to 31 January 2014. During the visit, the Princess will follow the development work that DCA performs in the country. Princess Marie will visit development projects in villages in Bale district and will look at how the project staff and local work with the cultivation of land, preparedness for climate change, animal husbandry , health and nutrition.

Monday 27 January

Lunch with the Danish ambassador in Addis Ababa
Princess Marie participates in a luncheon organized by the Danish Ambassador to Ethiopia, which will report on developments in the country and to cooperation between Ethiopia and Denmark .

Visiting ENGSKO United Milling System
Princess Marie visits with Secretary of Development Nielsen, the Danish company ENGSKO United Milling System that produces millstones to grind grain. The Princess and the minister will be shown the production halls in Addis Ababa and introduced to the company's work .

Meeting with DanChurchAid
Princess Marie greets local employees from DanChurchAid's office in Addis Ababa and is informed about the organization's work in Ethiopia.

Tuesday 28 January

Departure from Addis Ababa
The Princess and the remaining participating delegation head towards Bale Mountain, which is 400 kilometers south of Addis Ababa to visit the organization's projects in local areas .

Wednesday 29 January

Visit the project in Jibri
The Princess visits a community in Jibri , Goro , and get showcased the common water pump, which was established in June 2013. Local leaders talk about the use of the pump , after which the nursery in the area is shown. The Princess will also visit a family who grow amaranth, as part of the project testing new and more climate-resilient crops. Subsequently, Princess Marie visits a school where DanChurchAid has built a water reservoir.

Visit to Sinana
Princess Marie will visit a project in Goro , which aims to provide information on HIV in rural communities where people with the disease are often stigmatized. The Princess meets men and women who have HIV that through the project attempted re- integrate into society. Additionally welcomes Princess and the women who completed the project trained to create better economic environment for themselves.

Friday 31 January

Visits by Tufa - Miessa Livelihood Enhancement Project
Princess Marie visits a project in DCA in the Tufa - Miessa area, which is vulnerable due to lack of water and one-sided focus on livestock , but whose population through the project are introduced to new crops . The Princess greets locals who participate in the project.

Reception with the Danish Ambassador
Princess Marie will be attending a reception hosted by the Danish Ambassador to Ethiopia in the Ambassador's residence .

Queen Margrethe, Prince Henrik and Prince Felix attend handball match.

Today was the final of the European Handball Championship, and it was Denmark vs France. The danish team had some important supporters as Queen Margrethe, Prince Henrik and Prince Felix watched and cheered from their VIP seats along with Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt


Unfortunately, France beat Denmark and took the title with a score of 41:32.

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit are in Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum

Princess Marie at the International House Copenhagen.

Princess Marie attended the celebration of the International House Copenhagen’s new partnership on 23 January.

At the inauguration it was celebrated that 15 new municipalities from the Capital Region and Zealand initiate cooperation with the International House Copenhagen. The International House Copenhagen brings relevant authorities together in a common house where international citizens, among other things, recieve guidance and help with paperwork and looking for jobs and the opportunity to participate in professional and social events.

At the event Princess Marie revealed two new plates with logos that are made on the occasion of the collaboration. Mayors of partnership municipalities participated in the celebration as well as members of the Advisory Board.
International House Copenhagen opened in 2013 and is a public-private partnership.

Prince Joachim at the House of Industry.

This morning, Prince Joachim presented the "Initiative Prize" at the House of Industry in Copenhagen.



The audience was composed of senior SMEs. They were all in dark suit and tie for the day, which is not always the case in Denmark. Many employees, even in high places, dress "casual" at work and bring a suit for special occasions.
They also had to get up to greet the prince, they also laughed to see some photographers constantly take pictures of Joachim.

Crown Princess Couple Foundation board meeting.

On 20 January, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel held a board meeting for the Crown Princess Couple Foundation (Kronprinsessparets Stiftelse) at the Royal Palace in Stockholm


Following the Crown Princess Couple's wedding in 2010 the Crown Princess and Prince Daniel formed a foundation. It seeks to promote children and young people in Sweden with a view to tackling exclusion and promoting good health. 

The foundation's board is Crown Princess, Prince Daniel, Svante Lindqvist, Chairman, Jan Lindman, treasurer, Alessandro Catenacci, Claude Marcus, Karl-Johan Persson, Håkan Pettersson and Johan Skarborg.
