King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia in Latvia - Day 1

Sweden's King and Queen spent two days in Latvia on a state visit from March 26th to 27th at the invitation of  President Andris BērziņšThe purpose of the state visit is to improve relations between the two countries, mainly through trade and industry. They were welcomed in Riga the country's capital with a big crowd carrying many blue and yellow Swedish flags mixed with the red and white Latvian ones.




Day one involved many meetings with the Latvian President and his wife at The House of The Blackheads, the official temporary residence of The President. 



There Carl Gustaf and Silvia signed a guest book and were shown many Swedish and Latvian historical items including maps, books, dishware and paintings. 




The King and The President also inspected a regiment of the Latvian Army.



The King and Queen also received a tour of the Swedish Embassy and ended their first day with a private dinner with The President and other dignitaries.
