Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary's official visit to Japan.

From Thursday, March 26 to Saturday, March 28th, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary made an official visit to Japan to promote Greenland.

On their first day, the couple began their visit attending a seminar and speaking to children who have experienced bullying at the Kyu Asakura House in Tokyo. Crown Princess Mary has worked for many years against bullying with the Mary Foundation, creating programs like Fri For Mobberi.
Unfortunately, bullying, or Ijime as it’s called in Japanese, is a big problem in Japan — Princess Aiko, the daughter of Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako, has experienced it first hand.

afterwards, the Couple attended a seminar on Greenland's fishing industry at the Hillside Plaza. Greenland is very keen on expanding their fishing exports to Japan. At the event, the guests were presented with pictures from the gorgeous Greenland nature and got to taste some of the country’s delicacies such as prawns and crab.

 On the evening, the Couple were part of a demonstration of local music.

On Friday, March 27, the couple were on a boat trip around Tokyo Bay. During the sail, the Crown Prince Couple was presented with the preparations for the Olympic Games in 2020 and the places where the sporting events will take place. The couple sailed with Tokyo Governor Yoichi Masuzoe and president of the organizing committee of the Olympic Games in Tokyo Yoshiro Mori.

After the boat trip, the couple had breakfast with representatives of the Maersk groupe and met with Princess Takamado and Princess Tsuguko at the inauguration of an exhibition about Greenland.

On the last day of visit, the Royal Couple visited on Saturday, March 28 the fashion and design school Mode Gakuen, which collaborated with Great Greenland and Kopenhagen Fur to introduce sealskin to new Japanese designers. During the visit, the couple was welcomed by students working with sealskin.

The Royal Couple also attended a Great Greenland fashion show in department store Tokyu Honten, where a collection designed by Danish designer Jesper Høvring was showcased.

The couple also visited zebra crossing Shibuya Crossing at Shibuya station. The station is the world's second largest in terms of passengers. Thousands of people pass daily Shibuya Crossing, and the surrounding area is home to Japanese youth and popular culture.

 The Crown Prince and Crown Princess paid a visit to Their Imperial Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan at the Imperial Palace.

And finally, they also met with His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Naruhito.

Crown Princess Mary's dresses on exhibition.


Crown Princess Mary gave permission for 10 of her dresses to be exhibited on the "Danish Fashion Now" exhibition at Brandts Institute in Odense. The exhibition, that opened on Friday, March 27th, features some of the greatest Danish fashion designers and their work. The exhibition will be open until September 13th, 2015.

Crown Princess Mary presents award to Princess Mabel.

Warm hugs and triumphant laughs were shared when Crown Princess Mary proudly received her good friend Princess Mabel, the widow of Prince Friso, on stage at the Champions for Change event at the enchantingly stunning Banqueting Hall in London on Thursday.
As patron of the event, Crown Princess Mary shared the key role with the evening’s award winners one of them being Princess Mabel of Orange-Nassau. All the winners were awarded with the Champions for Change Award for their work promoting women’s and girls’ rights. Princess Mabel was commended for her efforts in seeking to end child marriages.

Crown Princess Mary and Princess Mabel are both passionate advocates of equality between the sexes, and as Mabel arrived on stage she was greeted with approving smiles from her Danish colleague with whom she shared warm hugs and kisses on the cheek.
Wearing a powder pink, pleated dress with a brooch-like detail at the neck, Crown Princess Mary delivered the event’s keynote speech in which she spoke about her recent working visit to Ethiopia and the harsh encounter with circumcised girls from the Afar region.

Her speech was well received by the predominantly English audience in the Banqueting Hall, after which Mary was hailed by the next speaker on stage.

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Prince Frederik open a new power connection.

From opposite sides of the Skagerrak strait, Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon and Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik switched on a new power connection between their two countries.
At the exact same time as Frederik turned a handle in Denmark, Haakon turned a matching handle in Norway to let electricity flow freely between the two regions.
During the handle turning, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Prince Haakon were able to speak to each other via a live TV-transmission.


The new cable, which runs from Kristianssand in Norway to Viborg in Denmark, is 240 kilometres in length and is the fourth of its kind running underwater across Skagerrak. The price of this new connection is 2.6 billion Danish kroner.

Creating this new power connection between Denmark and Norway means that selling and buying electricity among the two countries has now become easier.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit celebrates Kindergarten Day.

HRH Crown Princess Mette-Marit celebrated Kindergarten Day today, along with children from Stein Røysa kindergarten.
Stein Røysa kindergarten had made the trip from Noida to Goat Myra fare center for children, located in Sagene in Oslo. Along with Geitmyras Andreas Viestad, they made a delicious chicken soup with vegetables and the Crown Princess was able to taste it.

2015 is the year of Outdoor Recreation, and therefore the work of the kindergarten with nature and outdoor activities stand in the commemoration of Kindergarten Day 2015. Children from Stein Røysa nursery made a poster that they gave to Crown Princess Mette-Marit. Here they had set up their best travel tips.
Kindergarten Day was established in 2005 and celebrated in March in kindergartens across the country. This opens the doors to the outside world in order to highlight the kindergarten content and quality.

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary's Official Visit to Canada.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess will pay an official visit to Canada’s capital Ottawa and Toronto on 17-19 September, 2014 to head up a Danish business promotion.

  • The program will focus on trade in health, food, architecture and green building and design and fashion. 
  • Around 80 Danish companies and organizations involved in export promotion. 
  • During the visit, the Crown Prince Couple will participate in a number of commercial and cultural activities, which aims to strengthen relations between Denmark and Canada as well as partnerships between Danish and Canadian companies. 
The Program:
  • In Ottawa, the Crown Prince Couple will lay a wreath at Canada’s war memorial and meet with the Canadian Governor-General. 
  • Moreover, they will at a local school to participate in an event against bullying - a subject which is precisely one of the Crown Princess priorities through the Mary Foundation. 
  • The Visit to Ottawa ends with a reception at the Danish Embassy attended by representatives from the Canadian government and the participating Danish business delegation. 
  • The visit continues in Toronto, where the royal couple will participate in a series of seminars in Danish fashion, design and green building. 
  • The Crown Princess will visit a Danish fashion and design exhibition, while the Crown Prince will be presented with a Danish-Canadian partnership for the construction of a Danish low-energy house in Canada. 
  • The royal couple will also visit Canada’s oldest and largest department store, The Hudson Bay Company, where about 30 Danish businesses in the fashion, design and food in a 3-week period has opened so-called pop-up shops. Here, the Crown Princess will visit the Danish-British chef Paul Cunningham. 
  • In 2015, Toronto will host the Pan American Games, which brings together 41 nations from North and South America to the world’s third largest multi-sport event. During the visit to Toronto, the Crown Prince Couple will visit one of the stadiums that will provide a framework for the Games. The royal couple will also be presented with a Danish-designed wheelchair for use by hockey players with disabilities. 
  • The Royal Couple will also participate in a series of seminars and events in the health sector, which in Canada is high demand for Danish solutions. 
  • The Ambassador will host a dinner at the Royal Ontario Museum and the visit ends with a film screening of the Danish western The Salvation from 2014.

Queen Sonja opens Nor-Fishing.

On 19 August, Her Majesty Queen Sonja opened the Nor-Fishing 2014. The opening of the traditional fisheries trade was dominated by women in key roles. 
Women are now increasingly more important actors in the industry, said the Queen in her opening speech. I would like to point out that's it is of course purely coincidental, - and certainly not a "feminist coup d'état​​" - that women dominate today's official opening. But as it happens, I am here today Accompanied by three women in leading positions (...).

Fisher Elisabeth Aspaker, Trondheim Mayor Rita Ottervik and fisheries director Liv Holmefjord, who is also chairman of the Nor-Fishing. The Nor-Fishing Foundation was established by the Ministry of Fisheries in 1992 and today has the right and responsibility to hold the exhibition Nor-Fishing and Aqua Nor. 
The fishing industry is vital to the world's food supply, and we must act wisely stressed the Queen: 
We are now seven trillion people on the planet. And the population is growing rapidly. All these people need food. Part of the solution to this challenge lies in the oceans. But in order to protect the resources industry in the oceans also for future generations, we need sustainable management. Education, knowledge, and good solutions are vital if the world is two succeed in harvesting the resources industry so important for everyone. We may have to act wisely!

Crown Prince Haakon opens new sorting facilities.


On 15 August, Crown Prince Haakon officially opened the new sorting facility at Skedsmokorset. Raumarike Avfallsforedling (ROAF), the world's first fully automatic sorting of plastic waste.
The facility covers approximately 170,000 residents in the municipalities of Bold, Gjerdrum, Enebakk, Sørum, Noida, Skedsmo, Lørenskog and Rælingen, and since its inception the system sorted out 350 tons of plastic recycled.

200th Anniversary of the Convention of Moss.

On August 14, 1814, the Convention of Moss was signed. King Christian Frederik chose peace. It was the beginning of the union and the 200 years of peace between Norway and Sweden. Both Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit visited Moss on the occasion of the anniversary. Crown Prince Haakon gave the main speech during the gala event at the Mill Arena.
Crown Prince Haakon began his speech by describing the situation and the difficult choice the Norwegian king faced:
He could choose for Norway to keep fighting for independence of nation-state, thus risking another war with Sweden's superior military power. Or he could go for the negotiation option that will hopefully save lives, ensure the Constitution and a certain degree of national autonomy.

The Crown Prince went on to talk about the importance of the choices we all must do, as individuals and as a society and how we as we celebrate Constitution Bicentennial not only celebrates the choices that were made in 1814, but also good choices we have made since to build and safe society.
The King's difficult decision was the beginning of 200 years of peace between the Nordic countries. (...) Throughout the proceedings he contributed, along with the Swedes, to save the Norwegian Constitution, and created largely foundations for the society we have today. He doubted his way to the result - as we often do in our main choices. And although we may not experience the fateful in our choices so clearly, we can choose the right thing for ourselves and for others. Every day.

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit visit the Spydeberg Rectory.

On 14 August, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit attended the opening of Spydeberg rectory garden.
Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit arrived by horse and carriage on the morning, escorted by 16 riders from Aggershusiske Riding Jaeger Corps. The couple got a briefing on the vicarage history, and the dramatic agustdagene in 1814 They also got to see an excerpt of "game of the Constitution", where King Christian Frederik must make his choice between the royal crown and peace with Sweden.

The Royal couple signed a book, and it will be transferred to a memorial celebration.
The Crown Prince and Crown Princess also got a tour of the listed vicarage before they traveled to Moss, where they attended the celebration of The Convention of Moss' 200th anniversary.

Crown Prince Frederik visits Made in Denmark golf tournament.

On Wednesday, August 13 Crown Prince Frederik was present at the golf tournament Made in Denmark and participated in a practice round during the so-called Pro-Am tournament. The Crown Prince is patron of the golf tournament, to be held on 14-17th August 2014 in Himmerland.

Crown Prince Frederik visits VM Badmindton players.

On Tuesday, August 12 as patron of World Badminton, Crown Prince Frederik attended a joint training with the Danish World Cup players in Brøndbyhallen. During the visit, the Crown Prince had the opportunity to greet the players.

Prince Joachim opens Mosede Fort.

On Wednesday, August 6, 2014 Prince Joachim attended the official opening of the museum Mosede Fort, Danmark 1914-18. During the opening, the Prince held a speech and then proceeded to officially open the museum.

Mosede Fort was built in 1913 to defend the Danish neutrality and independence during the First World War. Today, the fort is converted into a modern museum with video and audio recording that tell about life and change during the First World War.

Official Visit to Greenland - Nuuk.

On 7 August, the Crown Prince Family arrived to Nuuk - the capital of Greenland. The same day, the Crown Prince and Crown Princess attended an official dinner held on their honor at he Hans Egede Hotel. The Crown Prince gave a speech.

The next day, Crown Prince Frederik, Crown Princess Mary, Prince Christian and Princess Isabella dressed in National costumes again, was recieved by locals.

During their visit to the Council, chairman Lars Emil Johansen presented a gift. Crown Princess Mary then visited the MIO children institute where Kammagiitta - the Greenlandic name of Mary Fonden's Fri For Mobberi - is used.

The visit ended officially when the Crown Prince Couple along with Prince Minik and Princess Ivalo attended a reception of the Ivalo & Minik Foundation.
