Queen Sonja opens the "1814 - The game of Denmark and Norway" exhibition.

Today in the afternoon, Her Majesty Queen Sonja opened the exhibition "1814 - The game of Denmark and Norway" at the Folk Museum at Bygdøy. Today 200 years ago Denmark was forced to give up Norway .
The 14th January 1814, the Treaty of Kiel forced King Frederick VI of Denmark forced to give up Norway to the King of Sweden. Norway refused to accept this. When the Danish King had renounced the country the sovereignty was reverted to the Norwegian people who claimed Norway, and would determine the future itself.

This was the first move in the big political game of Norway in 1814. In collaboration with the National History Museum, Frederiksborg Castle in Denmark, the Norwegian Folk Museum selected this date for the opening of the anniversary exhibition "1814 - The game of Denmark and Norway" at the Folk Museum at Bygdøy.
